Partners In Prevention: Alaska Child Abuse Prevention Network

The Alaska Child Abuse Prevention Network was an innovative resource dedicated to preventing child abuse in the state of Alaska. Working closely with community partners such as PARENTS, Inc., the Network was committed to raising awareness about the importance of child abuse prevention and creating opportunities to support children and families.

Statewide Effort to Increase Participation

The Network was composed of four regional networks, which covered the entire state of Alaska. This state-wide effort was designed to increase the involvement and participation of family support programs, parents, and community leaders in meeting the challenge of child abuse prevention. By working together, the Network and its partners were able to provide a comprehensive and coordinated approach to preventing child abuse.

Outreach to Community Partners

The Alaska Child Abuse Prevention Network made significant strides in reaching out to interested community partners across the state. Through regional teleconferences, newsletters, and resource mailings, the Network provided prevention information to over 800 individuals and organizations. This outreach effort was instrumental in promoting the importance of child abuse prevention and creating a network of committed advocates throughout the state.

Regional Networks as Clearinghouses

Each regional network also served as a clearinghouse for information, education, and prevention resources. By sharing information and resources, the Network and its partners were able to stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in child abuse prevention. This collaborative approach ensured that everyone was working together towards a common goal.

Co-Sponsorship of Child Abuse Prevention Month

As part of its commitment to child abuse prevention, the Alaska Child Abuse Prevention Network co-sponsored April 2000: Child Abuse Prevention Month in Alaska. During this month, the Network distributed Community Resource Kits to promote local prevention efforts. These kits were filled with useful resources, such as tip sheets, brochures, and other materials designed to help communities prevent child abuse.

Network Capabilities

Although the Alaska Child Abuse Prevention Network is no longer in operation, it was a vital resource for preventing child abuse in Alaska. By working closely with community partners, the Network was able to raise awareness about the importance of child abuse prevention and create opportunities for individuals and organizations to get involved. With its comprehensive approach to prevention, the Network helped to create a safer and healthier future for Alaska’s children and families.
